Volunteer for Habitat for Humanity

Matthew 25:35When I was homeless, you opened your door.  Whatever you do for the least of my people, you do for me.

You are invited to participate in the first “Shelter the Homeless” build event scheduled for Epiphany on August 8 from 8 am – 12 pm.  This is a great opportunity to practice charity in accordance with the teachings of Jesus by serving those in need.  The event is open to all adults and ages 16/17 with a parent.

No experience is required, as experienced staff will guide you in completing tasks.  This event is an excellent opportunity to gain some experience! All volunteers must register online and complete a safety waiver that is signed electronically.  Those registered will receive email updates from Habitat for Humanity for any critical information or changes concerning the event. For questions about this event, please text/call Ed Wagner at 309-838-7782.

Habitat Rules:

  1. All volunteers must be 16 years of age or older to be present on the Habitat active construction site.  If a volunteer is age 16 or 17, they will not be able to use power tools (including drills) or climb on roofs, ladders, or scaffolding.  This rule is for their safety and for our compliance with child labor laws.

  2. All volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes.  Please dress for the weather.  Shorts may be worn on hotter days; however, knee coverage is recommended for roofing.  If the volunteer has long hair, that must be tied back.  Also, please do not wear loose clothing items such as long necklaces, long shirts, scarves, or anything that could get caught in the equipment.

What you will need on your build day:

  1. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your start time to allow for check-in.

  2. ALL volunteers MUST register online (see button below).  All volunteers must register by clicking the provided link, as the safety waiver is signed electronically.  This also facilitates cancellations and announcements.

  3. Volunteers are welcome to bring their own hammers, hard hats, safety glasses, or tool belts.  However, Habitat has everything they will need available on-site.

  4. There will be a break at 10 am.  Snacks will be provided.  Personal water bottles recommended.
